Tags: Young People

youth mayor and deputy with megaphoneIt's Election time again, so make your voice heard! The Lambeth Youth Elections are now in their 5th year, and each year is becoming more popular with young people across the borough. In the last election, more than 10,000 young people voted on-line and we hope more young people will use their vote in 2012!

Lambeth's Youth Mayor and Members of the Youth Parliament are elected every February and start their positions on 1 April. Any young person aged 11 – 19 years who lives, works or studies in Lambeth can take part – either as a candidate, or as a voter.

If you've been thinking about running for Youth Mayor or UK Youth Parliament, now's the time to put yourself forward as a candidate! It's a great opportunity for any young person aged between 11 and 19 years, but it comes with responsibility too. You will also need to be:

  • Aged 11-19 years old
  • Living, working or studying in Lambeth
  • Willing to attend meetings and events*
  • Able to attend training on 4th and 5th February 2012
  • Able to represent young people in a postive way

*to fit around study, training or other important commitments

  • Most of all, passionate about the issues that matter to young people!

If you think you meet the criteria, and you could make a difference to the lives of young people in Lambeth, download a candidate pack to find out more and apply. All forms should be completed and sent to Lambeth Youth Council by MIDDAY ON FRIDAY 27TH JANUARY 2012.

Download a candidate pack here.

If you'd prefer not run as a candidate, you can still get involved now!

  • You can make sure you're registered to vote when voting starts in February.  If you don't register, you can't vote!
  • Speak to your school or youth group leaders to find out if they've signed up for voting. If they haven't, why not encourage them to get in touch with Lambeth Youth Council to sign up? Voting will be online, and each young person gets one unique voting code when they register. By your school, college or youth group signing up, you'll be registered automatically and receive your code in January. If you don't register, you can't vote!
  • If you live in the borough but don't study or belong to a youth group in Lambeth, that's ok. You can still register when our voting software goes live. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and we'll let you know where and when you can register.
  • Do you know anyone who'd make a good Youth Mayor or Member of Youth Parliament? Speak to them, it be something they hadn't thought of. They could be the right one for the job!
  • The youth council is always looking for new enthusiastic young people to join. If you're passionate about youth issues, want to get your views heard and learn new skills along the way then join us.
